Huge news. I submitted my manuscript on time. Seemed like an unachievable goal but wtf I got there. Many thanks to
who kindly helped me with an early reading as I lurched towards the finish line. The current title is Detachable Penis: A Queer Legal Saga and all things going well, it’ll be out in May 2024 with Upswell. Lots of editing and re-writing to do before then, but it feels good to know there’s a launch date out there over the rainbow.
I wrote a piece called The Tubs: Archiving at the End of the World for the Griffith Review the other day. TW: Depression vibes! Now that it’s Spring I am of course feeling much better about humanity’s collective prospects. I also had a little story in UnMagazine about the horrors of working in the arts in a local council. You can read Yesterday, A Man Pissed on the Arts Centre here.
I got to launch Erin Riley’s essay collection A Real Piece of Work at Crucible Tattoo the other week which was a real treat. Then I was invited to Melton Library to discuss 19th century proto trans man Edward De Lacy Evans’s for Wear it Purple Day. This reminded me that my Long Lede fellowship essay about Edward De Lacy Evan’s will be published in a real life Penguin book in January with a bunch of interesting writers, you can pre-order a copy here if you felt so inclined.
I’ve started a writers residency at The Clocktower Centre in Moonee Ponds which is really nice. There are lots of ducks in the pond in the park nearby, so it’ll take all my willpower to sit at my desk and not spend my days frolicking in nature.
Queer View Mirror is going well, it’s radiothon so please subscribe to RRR! We got to interview Rowan Heath, the winner of this years Elizabeth Jolley short story prize which was pretty cool, you can have a listen to that here.
Finally, I’m reading Noah Riseman’s Transgender Australia book and Suzie Miller’s Prima Facie which I will be reviewing next month, so that’s keeping me busy.
That’s all I can think of right now. Thanks for reading :)
PS Let me know if you want to watch the new Ninja Turtles movie with me because no one else does!
